Sonic Evaluation

When it comes to this instrument, it's nothing but blue Skyes as far as I'm concerned! This is one of those guitars I could happily sit and play for the entire day, although duty demands that I put it down. It has a rich, complex voice with tons of headroom (meaning that you can really smack it without the notes breaking up), and it responds to your touch with piano-like fullness and immediacy. It fills the room with a rich natural reverberance, likely due to a combination of cocobolo's legendary overtone presence and the 12-fret construction.

Speaking of which, that 12-fret neck and 24.9" scale length make this neck unbelievably comfortable to play, as the strings feel downright slinky. That, coupled with the imminently comfortable 00-Skye body size, helps this serial feel like the wooden equivalent of your favorite pair of sweatpants, inviting you to sit down on the couch, get lost, and pick all day. It's a world-class fingerstyle guitar, but its headroom also gives it a fantastic tone if you're looking for a jangly strummer. Honestly though, anyone seeking a monster acoustic will enjoy this awesome offering from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company.

Spirit in the Skye

Eric Skye is one of the most revered figures in the world of acoustic jazz, and this 00-Skye from Santa Cruz Guitar Company was purpose-built to replicate his nuanced performances and expressive techniques. It has a 24.9" scale for easy, slinky playability along with a slighlty deeper body that produces more low-end and projects more powerfully than a typical 00. Its Adirondack spruce top gives it maximum articulation and headroom, and its gorgeous highly-figured cocobolo back and sides give it immense richness and harmonic depth.

Condition Report

This incredible Eric Skye signature model from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company is in superb shape with a bit of light honest playwear throughout the finish. There is also an area of more moderate wear on the treble side of the top by the pickguard. Also, there are some small dings sprinkled throughout the finish, and some scratches on the front, top, and back of the peghead. But, all in all, none of these imperfections are particularly egregious--they're just what happens naturally when a guitar provides an addictive playing experience like this one. It comes with its original leather-bound Ameritage case, too.
