Fender Limited 70th Anniversary Esquire
Excellent EsquiresWildwoodians, we are proud to showcase another limited-edition treat from our friends at Fender: the 70th Anniversary Esquire. Released alongside the Broadcaster (later known as the Telecaster) the Esquire was part of the first production run of solidbody guitars. Though critics scoffed at its design, which was unorthodox for the time, it quickly caught on among guitar players and became a mainstay of the Fender lineup. Now, seventy years after its birth in 1950, Fender honors the Esquire's legacy with these spectacular guitars.
All great guitars start with great wood, and these Esquires sport a particularly cool body made of roasted pine (fun fact: the original Esquires and Teles were made of pine, too!). Pine is renowned for its punchy, full-bodied tone, and the roasting process takes things a step further to tonewood Valhalla. Roasting a guitar body removes most of the moisture from the wood, which improves resonance and sustain while reducing weight.
Pickup maestro Tim Shaw added another killer ingredient to the sonic cocktail by winding a special Esquire pickup for the occasion, and it sounds so good you'll wonder why you ever thought neck pickups were necessary. Inspired by an original Esquire pickup from 1950, Shaw's pickup delivers plenty of punch, twang, sparkle, and growl for pitch-perfect fifties Fender tone. Using the three-way switch, you can run it with the tone circuit bypassed for rawer tone, with the tone knob for more control, or with a preset treble roll-off for extra warmth.
And, these Esquires are a delight to play! Their fat U-shaped neck profiles are gloriously chunky, and the 7.25" radius gives them vintage-accurate feel and makes playing chords easy like Sunday morning. Vintage-tall frets also help you bend strings with less effort!
We believe that these guitars are a fitting tribute to their vintage forebears, and we have no doubt that these paragons of Esquire excellence will inspire you to wander the fretboard for hours on end!
