Few bands have ever managed the staying power of legendary British rockers The Cult, and throughout their four decades of existence, their one constant has been lead guitarist and songwriter Billy Duffy looking unbelievably cool with a Gretsch Falcon slung low. The Falcon is inextricably intertwined with The Cult's music, as Duffy has used the Falcon as the engine driving their propulsive, groovy blend of post-punk and hard rock since the band's inception. Duffy says that all the guitars on The Cult's 1985 classic Love are Falcons! Naturally, our friends at Gretsch gave him a signature White Falcon in 2013.

Now, to celebrate the Cult's fortieth anniversary, they've partnered again to produce a limited edition version of his signature model inspired by his original "Sanctuary" Falcon. called the G8424TG. So named because the band has been rocking from '84 to '24, the G8424TG features a headstock hand-signed by Billy himself, a special truss rod cover, a commemorative case, and exclusive case candy.

Feel the Love

Though the Billy Duffy G8424TG is certainly a collector's item, it's also an absolute joy to play thanks to its rich acoustic resonance and spectacular Black Top Filter'Tron pickups custom-wound for Billy. Man, is it ever fun to just crank your amp and strum chords with this guitar! The pickups have all the classic sparkle, chime, and jangle of a classic Gretsch (even some twang!), but they have more muscle, punch, and power. The fundamental comes through clearly, but it's laden with rich overtones, allowing for a rich and clear tone with excellent note separation. That richness also gives lead lines tons of depth and fullness, making you want to play soaring parts that are, well, kind of like Billy Duffy's! On top of that, the U-shaped neck is a delight to play, and the vintage small frets allow you to "feel the wood," motivating you to play expressively.
