A Treasure of Antiquity

Wildwoodians, when it comes to treasures troves of classical antiquity, the Gibson Custom Shop is the is the greatest in human history (even greater than the Hildesheim Treasure, which was the largest collection of Roman silver ever found outside the empire's borders). We may be stretching the definition of "classical antiquity" here, but try and argue with the Antiquity Burst on this highly-limited Custom Shop 50th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard--we'll take this guitar over a bunch of old cups and stuff any day!

Frankly, the finish for this guitar is one of the coolest ideas that our friends at Gibson Custom have ever had, and it's also one of the rarest they ever produced, as only 59 of this model exist. Basically, the idea is that this finish is what would happen if you took the pickguard, selector switch, and poker chip off a '59 for the first time after UV light had caused the exposed finish to fade steadily for fifty-plus years. This produces a striking glimpse glimpse of a vibrant original cherry sunburst amidst the warm orange and yellow hues of a faded burst.

But, it doesn't just look unbelievably cool--it sounds resplendent as well thanks to its Burstbucker pickups, which deliver vintage vibe with a dash of modern heat and clarity. And, the neck profile nails that fifties feel, so it's a joy to play.

We're proud to showcase this treasure of antiquity, and we have no doubt it will inspire some lucky Gibson aficionado to embark on many fretboard adventures.

Condition Report

This '59 Reissue shows virtually no signs of use. It odes have one cracked knob, which we replaced (the original is in the case pocket). It comes with its original case and hangtags along with a certificate of authenticity and its uninstalled pickguard, poker chip, and selector ring in case you want to be stealth and conceal The Secret of The Antiquity Burst (which, incidentally, we think would make an excellent title for an Indiana Jones musical).
