Sheeran by Lowden S Series S02
Star of the A Team
Wildwoodians, we are proud to introduce you to Lowden's new line of acoustic guitars, the Sheeran by Lowden collection. The story of the Sheerans begins with a weekend spent at a seaside cottage in Ireland, picks up steam with the help of aerospace engineers, and ends with stage lights and amazing acoustic guitars. It's quite a tale, so let's turn the page and see how these sweet guit-fiddles came into existence.
Gary, Ed, and George
Back in 2012, Ed Sheeran mentioned to his friend Gary Lightbody (frontman for Irish pop-rock juggernauts Snow Patrol) that he'd always wanted a Lowden Guitar because his childhood idol, Damien Rice, had always played one. Gary promptly gifted Ed his personal Lowden from a limited run made of Bushmills whiskey barrels. But, Gary wasn't done doing nice things for his buddy Ed. Gary reached out to George Lowden personally and asked him to build ED a small-bodied guitar closer in size to the 3/4th-sized models he had played for the majority of his career.
George retreated to his cabin on the Irish coast and got to work. When the sawdust settled, he had a brand-new Lowden model: the Wee Lowden. The WL-35 was a runaway success, but Ed Sheeran is a man of the people; after all, he's one of the most popular artists in the world! George and Ed both wanted to make the magic Lowden sound accessible to more guitarists, so they worked together to create a new line of instruments that delivered monster tone in an affordable package.
Of course, George Lowden is, has, and always will be unwilling to compromise on sound quality, so he hired two aerospace engineers to help him develop innovative new manufacturing processes that allowed him to build the Sheeran by Lowden guitars more quickly and efficiently. As a result, the Sheeran by Lowden Guitars exhibit incredible build quality at an unbelievable value. But, George still wanted to make these guitars "the old way," so skilled craftspeople still hand-shape each brace with Japanese hand tools. So, the tone of these guitars is a product of modern precision and old-world elbow grease!
Sustainable Sweet Sounds
Lowden has a reputation for using impressive tonewoods, and these guitars are part of that tradition. To produce these guitars, the fine folks at Lowden tried to use sustainably-sourced wood as much as possible--including ebony from old church pews! So, these guitars are good for the environment and the eardrums.
Each Sheeran by Lowden guitar comes equipped with a solid top made of either punchy-sounding Sitka spruce or dynamic, touch-sensitive cedar. To maximize resonance and sustain, each piece of wood wears what George calls "almost bare." Because of their awesome tonewoods and breathable finish, these guitars sing out with huge voices despite their smaller body size. And, their small bodies make them quite portable and comfortable to play, so you can have your cake and eat it, too!
