Step Into the Fun House

The summer I (Trevor, Wildwood's resident Guitar Scribe) turned twenty-one, I spent a lot of time driving, and I went back and forth between two CDs in my deck: The Stooges' self-titled first record and The Stooges' Fun House. This isn't because I was too broke to get new music. No, it was because listening to The Stooges makes every other rock band look silly by comparison. If you trace pretty much every genus and species of metal, punk, and hard rock back in time, you'll find your way back to the Stooges. They tapped into the primal, visceral raw power of rock and roll better than any other band, and Ron Asheton was the man who brought the danger.

Rolling Stone ranked him the 29th most important guitar player of all time. In the article, they said that he was "the Detroit punk who made the Stooges' music reek like a puddle of week-old biker sweat," and that's pretty accurate. His blend of power-chord primitivism, switchblade blues, and psychedelic fretboard freakiness was a key ingredient in The Stooges' sonic stew. To celebrate his legacy, our friends at Reverend Guitars built him a signature guitar. Wildwoodians, it is an absolute monster.

Real Cool Time

It's a sweet offset-bodied guitar with three P-90s, which is all you should really need to know before you start salivating. Three P-90s in a korina body is pretty hard to beat in terms of raw power and versatility. They sound thick and rich, but they still have a very articulate attack and plenty of punch and snarl. And, with Reverend's bass contour knob (which they actually invented for this guitar back when they started working with Ron), you can get all sorts of thinner, more traditional single-coil sounds.

Of course, the Asheton Signature Jetstream 390 also comes equipped with all of Reverend's typical player-friendly appointments: a medium oval neck profile with a 12" fingerboard radius and medium jumbo frets for optimum playability, boutique pots and caps for consistent tone, a six-bolt neck joint for extra energy transfer, and a boneite nut and pin-lock tuners for excellent tuning stability. As a result, it's as reliable and gig-worthy as it is artistically inspiring.

Wildwood Guitars is proud to showcase the Ron Asheton Signature. Ron is one of the greatest ever to lay finger to string, and his signature guitar is a fitting tribute to his punk rock legacy. We invite you to take one for a spin and get loose. Once you do, we're sure you'll have a real cool time.
