Tonal Evaluation

"I think it's GREAT!! It's just lovely!" That's what Eric Clapton jubilantly exclaimed after his encounter with a Henderson guitar only a few serial numbers away from this one. Wayne Henderson builds his instruments in Rugby - an extremely small and unincorporated community in southern Virginia. A quaint place with a population of 7, Wayne describes it as "the kinda place were you have to take turns being the mayor, the preacher and the town drunk."

This rustic landscape serves as the backdrop for Wayne's incredibly sought after work. His talents with a chisel have allowed his instruments to gain a profile on par with that of pre war Martins. As such, his pieces are highly desired by collectors and musicians the world over.

Simply put, we've never heard a non-vintage dreadnaught with a voice like this one. Its a voice that's simultaneously full-bodied and brilliantly expansive while also harnessing a SHOCKINGLY gorgeous response to a light touch. The bass tones are full and rich with that rare three-dimensional depth that feels palpable, but never "too much".

The mid-range is incredibly clear with note separation to die for and outstanding vibrance. The trebles ring with richness and depth to a degree that allows melodies to effortlessly punch forth in a mix.

For a guitar built barely 12 years ago to present with this level of earthy vintage warmth and authority is nearly unheard of. It's rare that a large bodied Adirondack guitar is equally at home driving a band as it is conveying solo fingerstyle work, but this one most certainly is. In short? This is one of the best sounding guitars to ever grace our shop.
