Reverend Wildwood Exclusive Sensei RT - #5 of 6
The Rarest Sensei of AllIf our friends at Reverend have taught us anything, it's that you should always respect your Sensei. This particular Sensei--the RT version--is worthy of reverence for several reasons. First and foremost, it is covered in sparkles, and that is undeniably cool. Second, it's one of a run of only six guitars in a Wildwood-Exclusive finish! Since the only thing better than a sparkly guitar is a rare sparkly guitar, we are so excited to show these revelatory Revtron-equipped guitars off. But, the appeal goes much deeper than cosmetics because Reverend will not be producing any Sensei RTs for some time. So, if you want a solidbody with two cutaways and two Revtrons, strike now because once these are gone, they're gone.
Korina: The Tone CornerstoneBeneath that sparkly finish lies the building block of all great Reverend tone: korina. Korina is a sustainable wood that shares many sonic characteristics (warm, midrange punch, and responsiveness, to name a few) with mahogany. However, its trebles are more harmonically complex and lively, and it has a sunnier overall timbre.
The Revtron RevolutionKorina's natural tone pairs perfectly with the voice of Revtron pickups. Though they take their inspiration from the 'tron pickups that filtered out of the fifties and sixties, Joe Naylor updated them with a little bit of extra modern heat. So, they produce rich, full-bodied low-end along with roaring throaty midrange and lush, chiming, sparkly trebles. The Bigsby tailpiece also imparts a little bit of extra growl to the attack and a smidgen of bell-like high-end resonance.
The neck pickup is incredibly thick, but low notes still ring through clearly, and chords have excellent note separation. For thick creamy solos, fat riffage, and jazzy chord comping, it will get the job done. It also works marvelously for clean rhythms that demand beefiness and clarity.
Flip to the bridge position, and you'll find a wonderful blend of sparkle and punch. The midrange asserts itself forcefully, and the high-end is laden with sweet overtones. Beneath that, you'll find lows that are all muscle with no gristle. In other words, it's a perfect rock rhythm tone. It will also jangle beautifully through a clean amp, and it has enough twang for country. Single note-leads will karate-chop their way through a mix, and chords ring out with sculpted power and authority.
Using Reverend's beloved bass contour knob, you can passively roll-off low-end in either pickup position for a brighter, tighter sound with more sparkle and quack. This makes the Sensei RT incredibly versatile. Though Revtrons do excel in their traditional twang-n-jangle applications, these pickups do far more than that. They'll work well for metal, punk, grunge, classic rock, jazz, blues, and even funk and soul.
Power to the PlayerReverend has kitted out the Sensei RT with a metric ton of appointments that enhance the player's experience and while making the instrument supremely reliable. The medium oval neck profile is home to 22 medium-jumbo frets and a fingerboard with a 12" radius, a configuration well-suited to most techniques and playing styles (and, it's especially good for bending strings). Also, it has pin-lock tuners and a Boneite nut to ensure excellent tuning stability, and it comes equipped with boutique-quality pots and caps and a Pure Tone jack for consistent sound. Finally, an angled six-bolt neck plate increases stability and resonance while allowing easy access to the upper frets.
A Sense of Your SenseiHopefully, by now you have a sense of why this Sensei has captured our hearts. Its sparkly finish is visually arresting, and its powerful voice grabbed us by the eardrums and refused to let go. We're proud to showcase these limited edition beasts, and we know they will inspire you to make all kinds of joyous noise.
