The Comeback Kid
It seems hard to imagine a world without the Les Paul Custom, but that was the shocking reality between 1960 and 1968. Disappointed by slow-moving sales, Gibson discontinued the model in favor of the SG. Thankfully, some time during the great rock boom of the 1960s, guitarists realized that a Les Paul Custom is one of the coolest looking things you can step on stage with, and Gibson reissued it. Now, we teamed up with our friends at Gibson Custom to produce a Wildwood-exclusive tribute to these guitars that reignited the fire: the Wildwood Spec 1968 Les Paul Custom.
Ever the imposing beasts with their classic white finish, elegant gold hardware, and sharp white binding, the 1968 Les Paul Custom is a true stunner. Just like the originals from '68, it has a mahogany body with a 2-piece maple cap as opposed to a solid mahogany body like its fifties forebears. This gives it that classic rich Les Paul sound. Also, it has a 14-degree headstock angle, which gives a boost to sustain.
Speaking of which, two Wildwood Spec Custombuckers pump out plenty of delectable vintage Gibson tone. They have a percussive, articulate attack, and they are quite touch-sensitive and dynamic. The bridge pickup has righteous snarling, punchy midrange to go with robust muscular lows and stinging highs. By contrast, the neck pickup is warm and deep, with woody vintage-style low-end along with broad, vocal midrange and sweet, singing highs. With these two classic tones at your disposal, you can bring the spirit of '68 back!
We're proud to present the Wildwood Spec 1968 Les Paul Custom for our exceptional customers. It tells the story of one of the guitar world's greatest comebacks, and it is a fitting tribute to one of the coolest guitars on the planet. We are proud to present the comeback kid, the Wildwood Spec 1968 Les Paul Custom. We're sure it will help you make tons of joyous noise.
