Martin Guitars Custom Shop Slope-Shouldered HD-28
Sonic Evaluation
When I first started strumming this Slope Shoulder HD-28, one of my coworkers made a beeline across the shop and said "What is that? It sounds incredible!" That gives you an idea of how special this serial is. It sounds unbelievably lush and rich, yet it still has excellent note separation, clarity and balance. The lows have that signature Martin boom, but the midrange and trebles have this beautiful sweet, sparkling presence that makes it easy to get lost while playing. The attack is percussive and has juuuust the right amount of musical compression before it gives way to blooming, three-dimensional resonance. It's also quite responsive, which makes for a delightfully dynamic musical experience. Strumming chords is a blast, and lead lines have plenty of girth. I have no doubt that whatever lucky Martin aficionado ends up with this instrument will draw a crowd of curious guitar pickers, too!
