Gibson Mary Ford Les Paul Standard
Bye Bye Blues
Some performers just have that hard-to-quantify "it" factor, and Mary Ford had "it" in spades. One of the most accomplished multi-hyphenates of the 1940s and 1950s, she scored 28 hits with her musical partner Les Paul and became an icon of the screen through her countless TV and movie appearances. Even all these years later, her singing and guitar playing are awe-inspiring both for their emotional power and technically perfect execution. Through it all, she had her trusty Gibson guitar slung over her shoulder, and became as much of a Gibson icon as Les. Though Mary often used a custom-ordered guitar that influenced the design of the ES-295, our friends at Gibson believe she custom-ordered a Les Paul with a floral ES-295 pickguard and an armrest in 1958. Now, we're proud to present the recreation of that spectacular one-of-one original: the Mary Ford Les Paul Standard.
Apart from the pickguard and armrest, the Mary Ford Les Paul Standard also sports a vintage cherry back, which you don't see too often on goldtop LPs. But, the mojo goes far deeper than how cool it looks, as the Mary Ford Les Paul Standard is also a monster sonically. Two Burstbucker pickups deliver the sweet PAF sounds we know and love from countless classic recordings, and the premium mahogany body and maple cap give it plenty of resonance. It's also a joy to play thanks to its imminently comfortable SlimTaper neck profile.
We think it's awesome that Gibson is honoring the legacy of Mary Ford, one of pop music's first guitar heroes, with a signature model. We have no doubt that her signature model will have you saying "bye-bye" to your blues!
