Martin Guitars Custom Shop Slope-Shoulder D-28
Sonic EvaluationThis Wildwood Spec D-28 is a real beauty! Wild-grain Indian rosewood back and sides, a bearclaw Sitka top, and sloped shoulders to boot...mmm, that's one tasty acoustic morsel! It sounds positively glorious, too. After the round ,piano-like attack, the first thing you notice is the highs. The top-end has lots of sweet sparkle and chime, which contrasts nicely with the low end. Because man, does this thing ever have kickin' bass response! "Cannon-like" isn't a word I throw around, but it's the most apt descriptor for this low E string. All low notes are open, sonorous, full, and warm. Also, the midrange produces a clear fundamental, which brings a bit more clarity to big chords.
When you really dig in, a beautiful bouquet of sparkling overtones emerges from the soundhole. These blooming frequencies all sit in just the right spots, so the sound remains mannered and clear despite its rich, sparkling resonance.
Pretty much anyone seeking a Martin for strumming will love this Custom Shop D-28! I have no doubt it will bring some lucky acoustic adventurer a lifetime of inspiration.
