Gibson Dave Mustaine Songwriter
Swaying to the Symphony
Wildwoodians, get ready to sway to the symphony of destruction--this time, acoustically! Our friends at Gibson guitars have issued a stunning Dave Mustaine Signature Songwriter with a menacing murdered-out finish that puts a fresh spin on classic Gibson tone. Though Mustaine is more well-known for setting electric fretboards on fire, his tasteful acoustic playing has graced countless classic Megadeth records, and this guitar is the culmination of his unplugged vision.First things first: the Dave Mustaine Songwriter differs from the normal songwriter in a number of important ways. It has the old-standby, a Sitka spruce top, but that's where the similarities end. Instead of the typical mahogany back and sides, the Mustaine Songwriter uses walnut. Walnut is a hardwood that sounds very similar to mahogany, and it has the same warmth and punchiness, but it has a bit more sparkle and jangle in the high-end. It also has a slightly thinner body for extra playing comfort, which also gives this guitar a touch more articulation, focus, and clarity. All in all, it gives this guitar a different flavor of Gibson tone from any other model in their lineup.
Beyond that, it has a few ergonomic tweaks that make for a wonderful playing experience. It has 24 frets, so you can achieve full shredification with two whole octaves. And, said neck has a 24.75" scale-length as opposed to the Songwriter's normal 25.5." This gives the strings a wonderfully slinky feel and makes this guitar even more imminently shreddable. And, it has a stellar-sounding LR Baggs VTC pickup to ensure you get crystalline fidelity when you plug in and play live.
And, it looks the part too thanks to its imposing ebony finish, mother-of-pearl teeth inlays, and Vic Rattlehead art on the pickguard and peghead inlay.
We have no doubt that the Dave Mustain Songwriter will inspire you to sway with the acoustic symphony of destruction!
