Used 2010 Collings OM2H
Sonic Evaluation
This Collings OM2H sounds so awesome that it compelled my coworker to turn off an eight-track of Ace Frehley's first solo album to better appreciate the sonic nuances of this serial (it was certainly the guitar, because I wasn't playing anything remotely as cool as Ace!). How did it outdo a member of KISS? Well, it absolutely nails the iconic OM tone: it's rich and full-bodied yet articulate, and its attack springs forth with a piano-like sudden punch.
It's also quite responsive to the player's touch, and it has just the right amount of headroom: enough that it can project powerfully and clearly without notes breaking or cracking, but not so much that you have to tire out your right hand and arm to get the top moving. Basically, this means you can get a lovely lush overtone presence at lower volumes--and hoo boy, does this serial have the overtones! The lows are warm and chocolately, the midrange is clear and open, and the highs are laden with sparkling harmonics. Consistency is another watchword with this guitar, as it is quite even and balanced. Overall, it fits the profile of many of the classic OM guitars of yesteryear, but with a little extra harmonic oomph.
A guitar like this is an all-around workhorse that can handle all sorts of play styles and genres of music. Wherever you want to go in the musical world,
this Collings OM2H will be a steadfast travelling companion.
Condition Report
This Collings OM2H is in fantastic shape, and it sounds killer--it's a true all-terrain vehicle! It has just a few small cosmetic flaws to report. There is very light wear from normal use throughout the finish, a small finish flaw (possibly a repaired ding) on the top near the tip of the pickguard, and a few small dings and chips on the headstock edges. The label is also peeling up a little bit, and there's some very light fret wear. A previous owner also replaced the nut, and the original is in the case. Speaking of which, it comes with its original hardshell case!
