Used 2014 Gibson 120th Anniversary Flying V
V is for Victory
When the Flying V was first released in 1958, it was a flop of epic proportions. Demand was so low that only 98 ever even shipped, making the original examples of Gibson's Modernist series some of the rarest, most valuable guitars ever built (not to mention, some of the coolest!). Once the guitar-playing world has finally figured out that pointy guitars are cooler than Teddy Pendergrass sipping a milkshake in a snowstorm, Gibson put together this awesome 120th Anniversary edition that celebrates 12 decades of Gibson and pays tribute to the style, look and sound of the vintage originals. Speaking of sound, this serial sounds fabulous thanks to its '57 Classic pickups, which capture the sound of vintage PAFs beautifully! This piece of Gibson history is also a true sonic titan, and it proves that pointy guitars are always the best (scientifically speaking).
Sonic Evaluation
This 120th Anniversary Flying V a mean mistreater! The bridge pickup has a focused bite in the midrange to go with taut, tight lows and chiming highs. The neck pickup's warm, rich voice complements the snarlier bridge pickup beautifully with its open, throaty mids, deep bass response, and fat, vocal trebles. The middle position gives you the best of both worlds: viciousness and lushness in perfect harmony! Anyone seeking a V that can do it all will love this serial.
Condition Report
This 2014 120th Anniversary Flying V is in fantastic shape to boot. It shows light wear from normal use (mostly just some small, light scratches and tiny dings), and there are a couple marks on the headstock edge (likely from a stand or wall hook). It comes with its original hardshell case and all its factory paperwork, too!
