Back in 1958, Buddy Holly's father convinced his son's producer, Norman Petty, to record a group called Trini Lopez and the Big Beats. Over the last several decades, Trini recorded an astonishing sixty-five albums. In 1964, he also helped design one of the coolest Gibsons ever to grace the stage: the Trini Lopez Standard. With its split diamond inlays, diamond-shaped F-holes, 6-on-a-side tuners, and Trini Lopez tailpiece, it cast quite a striking figure, and its iconic looks have made it a favorite of superstars like Dave Grol and Noel Gallagher.
