Sonic Evaluation

Some guitars instantly feel like old friends when you sit down with them, and this Stefan Grossman HJ-38 is one of them! Right from the get-go, its sunny warmth and rich bouquet of overtones made it feel familiar and inviting. It has a round, springy attack that stays consistent at all volumes, and it has a woody clack to it that helps it punch through. The lows sound piano-like and huge, the midrange has a surprising amount of punch, and the highs sparkle and chime beautifully. It feels the room with a three-dimensional, open resonance that calls to mind the phrase "wooden cannon." Anyone seeking a great jumbo guitar should check this Stefan Grossman Signature out!

Condition Report

This Spectacular Stefan Grossman HJ-38 is in fantastic condition and has undergone some repairs. It shows light fretwear and light signs of normal use: pick marks, faint scratches, and small dings, mostly. The binding has shrunk and there is some checking at the butt of the guitar along the wedge, and the lacquer has yellowed faintly in a few spots (most noticeably on the neck binding). There are two repairs: a crack in the top from the bridge by the A string to the butt edge and some back and side separation from the neck heel. Both repairs were performed expertly, as they are barely noticeable and as stable and solid as the Rock of Gibraltar. A previous owner was also kind enough to install a strap button the neck heel and a Fishman Matrix VT pickup, so this serial is ready to rock the stage! It comes with its original hardshell case, too.
