Used 1998 Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top Classic
Sonic Evaluation
If you want to have your cake and eat it too, check this Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top Classic out! The Vintage Voice circuit allows this guitar to achieve accurate representations of both Fender and Gibson tone, which gives you a host of inspiring options. You see, the problem with HSS guitars is that single-coils like 250k pots while humbuckers like 500k pots. Since you usually can't have both, that means compromising the single-coils or the humbucker. Tom Anderson's Vintage Voice is nifty workaround for this problem. Basically, it's a passive circuit that fools the single-coils into thinking they're connected to a 250k pot. So, you get plenty of high-end with the 'bucker and a sweet tone with the singles!
Overall, this guitar is very expressive with a rich harmonic response across the board. The attack has just the right amount of vintage-style sag and give, and it captures the details of your pick with excellent clarity. The lows are deep and warm, the mids are wide and operatic in the vocal quality, and the trebles are laden with sparkling, sizzling overtones. The bridge pickup is thick and muscular, the middle position is fat and sweet like a six-foot-tall mound of ice cream, and the neck position is the archetypical beefy Strat sound. Anyone seeking iconic Fender and Gibson tones in one guitar will love this amazing Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top Classic!
Condition Report
This Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top Classic from 1998 is in fantastic shape with just a few small cosmetic imperfections to report. The finish shows some light scratches and tiny dings, and the body and neck in fantastic shape overall. The hardware is moderate-to-heavily tarnished, and the finish has yellowed from sunlight higher on the neck. All in all, it's quite clean, sounds uber-mean, and offers a lot of tonal flexibility with its switching system. Not to mention, that maple top is downright crazy! It comes with its original hardshell case, too.
