Visually Stunning. Tonally Inspired.

When Paul Reed Smith offered Wildwood Guitars the chance to raid his sacred Wood Library, we knew we had an opportunity to do something incredibly special. The Wildwood Staff has always been captivated by the incredible craftsmanship, gorgeous finishes and unparalleled consistency in Paul's works of art, but the idea of getting to hand select our tone woods to create instruments that were not only visually stunning, but tonally breathtaking as well, was just too exciting to pass up.

We flew out to Stevensville, Maryland where we were graciously allowed access to the Wood Library, spending hours hand selecting the most incredible tone woods for our very own Wood Library run. Every detail mattered, from the density of the necks to the specific weight of the mahogany backs. Paul was gracious enough to allow us to hand select every piece of each instrument with tone being the priority, first and foremost. With this in mind, we knew we wanted to take Paul's most iconic instrument, the Custom 24, and enhance those instruments with "fat" mahogany backs, paying tribute to thicker, vintage mahogany instruments from the past. To compensate for the additional mass of the extra thick mahogany bodies, we hand selected ultra light, premium mahogany, so that fans of the classic Custom 24 would feel right at home. We then paired these 'Fatback' bodies with hand selected, ultra-dense Dark Peruvian Mahogany necks for superior resonance and sustain, creating a sweet tonal cocktail of singing harmonic content. Last, but not least, we searched every corner of the Wood Library to hand select the cream of crop for our maple tops, ranging from stunning East Coast Curly Maple 10-Tops to Artist Grade Quilted Maple.

Paul's constant evolution and relentless pursuit of tone over the years has led us to one of our favorite new pickups: the 58/15LT, a beautifully underwound version of the ultra popular 58/15 previously found only in Private Stock offerings. These PAF inspired pickups coax plenty of complex harmonic content and a clarity that is simply staggering. We knew these pickups were the perfect pairing for our ultra sweet, tonally rich 'FatBack' models and jumped at the chance to include them in our Wood Library run. Special finishes and high end upgrades complimented our choices of tone woods, completing a package that is vintage inspired, but distinctly PRS. The result is a guitar with the modern appointments, flawless construction and ultra-comfortable feel of a Paul Reed Smith instrument, with an enhanced sweetness and vibe of a vintage classic. We couldn't be happier with how these turned out and are excited to show the entire world what we've been up to, Wildwood Guitars is honored to present to you, our exceptional customers, this labor of love from Paul's Wood Library: The Wildwood Guitars Wood Library FatBack Custom 24 LT, a vintage take on a modern classic.
