Ride the Lightning

Wildwoodians, if you've ever had the urge to seek and/or destroy, we have a truly special specimen for you to feast your eyes upon today: the Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V. Artfully built by the skilled craftspeople of the Gibson Custom Shop and aged by the team of wizards at the Murphy Lab, this vicious V is a painstaking recreation of the guitar Kirk Hammett used on some little-known indie records called Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, and the Black Album. Of course, we're being facetious--Metallica's string of classics are some of the most legendary metal records ever, and Kirk's Flying V tone was a huge part of the band's pulverizing sound. So, break out the wah pedal and the leather vest and see why nothing else has mattered since this guitar arrived at the shop!

Metallica fans will be happy to learn that the Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V captures the metallic magic of those albums with both its tone and looks. The T-Type humbuckers are quite dynamic and lend themselves well to expressive soloing and meaty-yet-balanced rhythm sounds. The damage that the Murphy Lab incorporated into the finish (are the Metallica puns going to stop? Not a chance!) mimics the wear pattern on Kirk Hammett's original guitar to a T, and, well, to be honest, it makes you feel a little like a rockstar when you strap it on. It's also a blast to play thanks to the uber-comfy neck profile copied from the original guitar, too. It's a really fun neck to play with--slim at the neck and a bit chunkier up by the 12th fret so you have a little more to grab on to while shredding and doing big bends up high.

Of course, it's also highly collectible since this run of guitars is limited to 200 pieces worldwide, and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Kirk himself. So, it's a truly special piece of Metallica history AND a killer axe!

Wildwoodians, wherever you may roam, we think you'll want to take the Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V with you. We have no doubt its sweet style, killer tone, and outstanding playability will inspire you to thrash all around and act like a maniac until you get whiplash!
