J Mascis is a classic guitar hero in every sense of the word. Whether he's playing solo or with his legendary band, Dinosaur Jr, his riffs rule, his melodies are divinely catchy, and his solos catapult the listener into a realm of awesomeness previously populated only by Vikings riding dragons and bears driving monster trucks. Though he's often known as a Jazzmaster man, his secret weapon in the studio is a 1958 top-loader Tele that he's used for just about every solo he's ever recorded. Now, he and our friends at Fender have bequeathed a glorious new signature Tele that captures the magic of his original at an outstanding value.

The J Mascis Tele sounds killer, but first, we have to talk about how rad that Bottle Rocket Blue Flake finish is! It's also real nitrocellulose lacquer, which allows this Tele to resonate and roar like an old Fender. It also has some of Fender's roadworn wear to give the body a lived-in, comfortable feel.

Speaking of feel, the J Mascis Telecaster has a comfy C-shaped neck profile that sits squarely in the Goldilocks Zone (not too thick, not too skinny), and it has a modern 9.5" radius and jumbo frets, a versatile configuration that suits most play styles and techniques beautifully.

And, it has a sound that will handle business anywhere thanks to its custom-voiced '58 single-coils designed to mimic the originals in J's vintage Tele. They have plenty of sizzle and bite in the highs, and the midrange has a vicious streak that begs you to play big riffs and soaring leads.
