Reverend Kingbolt RA Floyd – Blackout Edition
King of the Bolt-Ons
There a lot of double humbucker-equipped guitars with bolt-on necks out there, but our friends at Reverend may have finally designed one that will rule them all: the Reverend Kingbolt RA FM Floyd. Now, they've made it even more gnarly with the Blackout Edition, adding an imposing ebony fretboard, black hardware, and a Railhammer Alnico Grande (a hotter vintage-style humbucker) in the bridge position.
Though this guitar's name may sound royal, its origins lie in something much earthier: car parts! A "kingbolt" is the vertical bolt that attaches an axle to the body of a car, and I think that's a fitting moniker for this ax. To hold together a car, a kingbolt has to be built with incredible precision, it has to be durable, and it has to do its job day in and day out with supreme consistency. The Reverend Kingbolt checks all those boxes and more (especially thanks to the rock-solid tuning stability of the Floyd Rose), and that is why it can lay claim to the throne as King of the Bolt-Ons. Let's take a closer look and see what makes this guitar so royally radical!
Game of Tones
For starters, the Kingbolt looks downright regal with its stylish offset body. But, the sound is what's really fanfare-worthy! The korina body vibrates against your stomach every time you play a chord, and it sounds round and full across the entire frequency spectrum. It's kind of like mahogany, but livelier with more top-end sparkle. The Hyper Vintage in the neck position provides, sweet, warm, vintage-inspired tone, while the hotter AlNiCo Grande in the bridge position takes a vintage 'bucker voice and adds a dash out heat for greater gristle and a glassy attack. Both the bridge and neck pickup have the sort of voice that fits into most musical situations--because hey, who doesn't like full-sounding, round guitars?--but Reverend's bass contour knob is what really makes this guitar rule. By rolling off the bass, you can get a lovely P-90-esque snarl/sparkle combo! t's also incredibly reliable thanks to its Boneite nut, pin-lock tuners, and dual-action truss rod. Wildwood Guitars is proud to present the Reverend Kingbolt RA FM Floyd, and we are excited to see how our exceptional customers use it to dominate the realm of rock and roll!
