Gibson Custom Shop Wildwood Spec 1963 Firebird I – Gloss
Firebird of Paradise
Wildwoodians, we are proud to present our latest collaboration with our friends at the Gibson Custom Shop: the Wildwood Spec 1963 Firebird I. This is quite a big deal, because our friends at Gibson Custom don't currently make a production Firebird I, so we're honored to showcase these vibe-laden tone machines. Also, because they're something about one-pickup guitars that's just cool--they automatically lend the player a sense of grip-it-and-rip-it rawness and immediacy, and they have an appealing simplicity. Some days, you just want two knobs, one pickup, and no nonsense, and the Wildwood Spec 1963 Firebird I is one of our favorite examples of that mentality at work.
For starters, the bridge pickup sounds good enough that you'll find yourself wondering why you ever bothered with silly extraneous things like selector switches and neck pickups. It sounds muscular and well-sculpted, hefty but without an ounce of flub or muddiness. The lows are nice and tight, the mids have a big-mouthed bite, and the trebles have pleasant sparkle and chime without any accompanying harshness. The Firebird's neck-through construction also gives it lovely sustain and a bit of extra resonance. It's awfully hard to pick a desert island sound when you work at a place like Wildwood, but this guitar bridge pickup is definitely a contender!
Add in a host of period-correct details like a stunning vintage mahogany sunburst finish, banjo-style tuners, and an imminently comfortable slim neck, and you have one of the coolest entries in the Wildwood Spec lineup ever! We're proud to showcase the Wildwood Spec 1963 Firebird I, and we have no doubt its simple yet elegant charms will steal your heart after just a couple of licks!
