PRS Guitars Wildwood Wood Library DGT – 10-Top, Brazilian Rosewood
The Wonders of the Wood Library
In a corner on the second floor of the PRS factory, there is a place that contains infinite potential for six-string savagery. Though it may look like a few racks filled with wood (not an uncommon sight in a guitar factory), reverent guitar players the world over speak its name in hushed tones: the Wood Library.
Essentially, the Wood Library is where PRS hands the reins over to Wildwood when it comes to picking wood. They allow us to customize their core line of electrics with whatever woods we want. We hand-select different tops, fingerboards, and bodies to create guitars that are totally unique to Wildwood. Once we pick the wood, our friends at PRS use their wizard-like powers of lutherie and obsessive attention to detail to turn them into some of the coolest instruments we've ever laid eyes on.
You might find, say, a CE 24 with a quilted maple top a semi-hollow McCarty 594 with an artist-grade top and a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, or an SC-594 with a solid Indian rosewood neck and a flamed maple 10-top. The sky is the limit within the Wood Library, and we are always switching things up to create exciting and unique experiences for our customers, so be sure to check back regularly for delightful new offerings. We invite you to browse through our selection of Wildwood-exclusive Wood Library instruments and find one that inspires you.
Twenty Years In the Making
Paul Reed Smith and David Grissom have been collaborators and friends for more than two decades. Grissom, a prolific session musician and solo artist, field-tested many PRS Guitars and gave Paul feedback in order to further refine the designs and add features. Finally, they decided to collaborate on a signature model guitar: the David Grissom Tremolo, or DGT. Now, they wear a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, so they breathe and resonate like a real vintage guitar.
The PRS DGT is a beautiful workhorse. It comes equipped with many delightful features that make it stand out even among PRS's legendary lineup. David Grissom had two favorite PRS axes with atypical neck shapes (perhaps the result of an under- or over-zealous sander). He asked Paul to combine the best parts of both necks to form the DGT's neck profile, and the resulting shape is as buttery as can be. Upon that delightful neck carve, there are 22 jumbo frets to facilitate easy bending.
The pickups in the PRS DGT are also quite special, as they are the result of some seriously intense research and development. Paul Reed Smith designed a special guitar that could swap pickups in seconds in order to do better comparisons. With the PAFs from David's 1959 ES-335 as the benchmark, they tested forty sets of pickups before ultimately finding the formula for the DGT humbuckers.
Their meticulous work paid off. These humbuckers NAIL the magic of a vintage PAF. The midrange is simultaneously raspy, woody, and punchy, while the bass response is warm and inviting yet clear. There is otherworldly note-bloom in the high-end, too. For anyone who enjoys vintage sounds, the PRS DGT offers a truly magnificent playing experience.
We are proud to showcase the PRS DGT, a guitar borne of two decades worth of friendship between guitar geniuses. We're sure that you'll find the fruits of their labor as inspiring as we do.
