Keats said that a "a thing of beauty is a joy forever," and after sitting down with this lovely OM-28 from the Martin Custom Shop, I think it will be a joy forever to some lucky guitar picker. OMs and 000s are known throught the acoustic guitar land as all-terrain workhorses great for strumming, picking, and fingerstyle, master of all trades but supreme master in none. This is the rare OM that has no weaknesses--A plusses across the board! It's uber-responsive and has a beautifully full tone at low volumes and hits with piano-like immediacy, but it's also loud enough to render some dreadnoughts shaken and distraught at the violence with which it announces itself. It has tons of headroom, too, so it sounds open and three-dimensional even when you're really driving the top.
The low-end here is warm, woody, and powerful enough to rattle your ribs, but it's not too much, so it doesn't muddy things up. The low mids are also very present, with wonderful depth and complexity. There's a bit of a notch in the upper mids, and then the trebles are repelte with sparkle and chime. It's a harmonic profile that feels robust and full without ever becoming muddy. That, combined with the superior dynamic response, make for an epic playing experience.
This OM-28 brought me immense joy during my play session, and I have no doubt it will do the same for you!
This marvelous Martin is in fantastic shape! The frets show virtually zero wear, and the finish shows extremely light signs of normal use. The only cosmetic imperfections to note are a few small dings on the top near the tip of the pickguard, and it comes with its original hardshell case.
