I swear, I need to hire someone to sit across from me with one of those squirt bottle things so they can hit me with a dose of cold water and yell "NO!" whenever I contemplate buying yet another guitar. I certainly could use some water-based discipline currently, because I am head-over-heels for this spectacular Custom Shop Martin.
First things first: within about thirty seconds of picking this guitar up, I had come up with a new fingerpicking riff. Immediate inspiration like that is always an indicator of an instrument's powers as a creative tool, and further examination proved that to be true. This guitar has such a wonderfully sweet, complex overtone profile, with tons of even-order harmonics that blend, well, harmoniously to create a rich, sweet voice. Despite that richness, it maintains excellent clarity and articulation--the magic of a great 000! The highs are replete with sparkling overtones, and the low-end is surprisingly deep.
And, it's marvelously responsive, even more so than you'd expect with an Engelmann spruce top. You barely have to kiss the strings to get them to ring! As you might guess, this guitar rewards a light touch, but it doesn't splat out if you get too enthusiastic with your strumming, and it has a good amount of headroom. It's an incredible fingerstyle machine, but it also takes a flatpick quite well.
All in all, this 000 is a spectacular beast that I am going to remove from my office right now to avoid temptation. I have no doubt whoever winds up with this serial will love it as much as I do!
This marvelous Martin looks almost brand-new! The finish shows faint signs of normal use, and it has no cosmetic flaws to report. It comes with its original hardshell case, too!
