Wildwoodians, you know I like to be detailed, but I won't bury the lede on this guitar: if you're looking for an OM-28, this is The One, and when I say "The One" I mean it exhibits as much greatness in musical endeavors as Jet Li did in martial arts in the 2001 action flick The One. Call that a stretch, but sometimes a guitar is so amazing the only parallels you can draw are to all-time great practioners of wushu.
Let's break down the particulars. This guitar is loud enough to send a fair amount of dreadnoughts running to the hills in terror, with plenty of headroom, yet it also responds beautifully to a light touch. It has no weaknesses. It's equally great fingerstyle and as a strummer/flatpickin' machine, and it has tons of depth and complexity without sacrificing clarity. The lows are cavernously deep and woody, the midrange surprisingly punchy, and the highs resplendent with sparkle and woody chime.
I always say that one of the peculiar heartbreaks of working at a place like Wildwood is that you can't take every guitar you fall in love with home, and this one is going to ache for a long time. But, I can take solace in knowing that some lucky Wildwoodian is going to get an OM-28 with Jet Li levels of excellence--I'm sure you'll agree that it's The One, too!
This 1931 Authentic OM-28 has clearly been played but also taken care of with great love. The frets show light-to-moderate wear, and there are some light marks from normal use, mostly pick marks on the top. There are also some light buckle marks on the back, and two noticeable ding on the near the binding on the treble-side lower bout and on the top of the headstock. There's a drop of something (likely glue) on the bass-side lower bout, and there's some checking along the binding and on the butt wedge. Basically, it's all good 'ol honest playwear--always an indicator that a guitar is a beloved source of creative inspiration. And, it comes with its original hardshell case!
