This '56 ES-140T is a three-quarter-sized guitar, but its tone is anything but pint-sized! It sounds wonderfully sweet and warm, with a pronounced woody, almost acoustic-like presence. It produced a fundamental as pure as driven snow, and it has just the right amount of warm overtones for seasoning. It sounds full-bodied across the frequency spectrum, with round, powerful lows to go with broad, vocal midrange and fat highs. And, it has fantastic note separation, so fancy jazz chords ring out beautifully.
Through a clean amp, this guitar's purity and warmth really shine through, but when you crank the gain, the other side of its personality comes out! The highs have a pleasing hairiness to them, and the muscularity of the mids and lows really shines through. It snarls like a junkyard dawg eyeing a porterhouse!
I could see this guitar in the hands of a jazz or swing player, a bluesman, an americana enthusiast, a raging garage rocker, or a punk with eclectic tastes, and not many guitars have that much range! Frankly, anyone who loves great vintage Gibsons will love this instrument!
This 3/4-sized ES-140T is in fantastic shape! The tuners are replacement replicas, and the strap button at the heel might be a replacement (it looks original but it's in an odd place), but other than that it's all original. The frets are in good shape with light signs of wear, although there is a little bit of a ski jump at the tongue, so a couple frets are a liiiiiiitle plinky, but not egregiously so.
Cosmetically, it shows the typical wear and checking for a seventy year-old guitar, but it is cleaner than most. Finally, the bridge looks original, and it is currently fused to the top, having been glued or taped there by a previous owner. It's in a great spot for intonation, and it allows for a wonderfully low, speedy setup in its current position. It also comes with a non-original hardshell case that fits it beautifully.
