They say it's a bad idea to move too fast in a relationship, but this Bourgeois SD had me ready to sign a lease with it, pack up my life in a U-Haul, and move in with it after about thirty seconds of play time. What a guitar! It's basically everything I want out of a dreadnought. It's warm and extremely-robust sounding with tons of headroom and oodles of volume, but it's also responsive to a light attack and has exceptional clarity and articulation. You feel the pick hit the string in your bones, but the attack is never harsh or strident. The lows are deep and powerful, but with a woody quality that keeps them nice and clear. The midrange is rich and warm, and the trebles have a lovely glassy chime to them.
If I could create a slope-shouldered dread for myself in a lab, it'd look a lot like this. Basically, it's a banjo killer that also has the responsiveness of a great J-45--the best of both worlds! Once again, I wish I could hire someone to monitor me at work and shoot me with a squirtgun every time I contemplate making an irresponsible purchase. Is there anyone out there looking for an internship involving one-sided aquatic combat at a guitar store? Drop me a line at trevor@wildwoodguitars.com.
Anyhoo, this Bourgeois SD has instantly become my new lunch break companion, and I have no doubt it will convince anyone who loves great acoustic to contemplate musical marriage after just a few strums.
This beautiful Bourgeois is in fantastic shape! It shows light signs of normal use (mostly just some light scratches on the headstock and pickguard area) with no other cosmetic imperfections to report. The frets also look great, as they shows extremely light--in fact, virtually zero--wear. It comes with its original hardshell case, too!
