The Sweetness

If you listened to rock radio at all in the 2000s, chances are you heard the dulcet tones of Jimmy Eat World frontman Jim Adkin's voice on tunes like "Sweetness" and "The Middle." Though he is renowned as a songwriter, Adkins actually did all of the lead guitar work on Jimmy Eat World's records, too (yep, that's him on The Middle, which has to be one of the best guitar solos on a Top-40 song). Though it all, his weapon of choice was a P-90-equipped Telecaster Thinline. To honor Jim and his incredible creativity, Fender has issued the JA-90, a guitar that captures Adkin's signature sound. Its semi-hollow ash body gives it an open, three-dimensional sound and excellent touch-sensitivity, and its two Seymour Duncan P-90s sound glorious. The bridge position has a beautiful blend of bite and sparkle, and the neck position sounds warm and sweet. The JA-90 also plays beautifully thanks to its slim modern C neck profile, medium jumbo frets, and 9.5" fingerboard radius, a configuration that promotes fast feel, easy bending, and buttery chording.
