'Bird on the Wire
Few silhouettes cut a more stylish figure than that of the Gibson Firebird, and its savage sonic properties have inspired everyone from Keith Richard to Johnny Winters to Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music to plug in, crank up, and rock out. Now, the magic of the Firebird is available at a decidedly player-friendly price in the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson 1963 Firebird I. Sporting many of the same appointments as its Gibson cousin, the Epiphone '63 Firebird is a collaboration between Epiphone and Gibson Custom, and as a result, it delivers incredible tone and feel at an awesome value.
Just like vintage examples, the Epiphone Firebird I has a nine-ply neck-through body made of walnut and mahogany and mahogany wings, which gives it exceptional resonance and sustain, two qualities that the wraparound lightning bar bridge further enhances. It also has Kluson planetary-geared tuners to complete the look!
Electronics-wise, the Epiphone '63 Firebird also matches the original with its one-pickup, grip-it-and-rip-it setup. There's something so delightful about playing a one-pickup guitar, as the no-frills rawness of it all compels you to get in touch with the elemental forces of rock and roll. That one pickup is a real Gibson USA AlNiCo 5 mini-humbucker, and it comes wired to high-quality components like CTS potentiometers, a Mallory capacitor, and a Switchcraft output jack to ensure maximum tone.
Fiery, Soaring Tone
Those premium electronics really shine when you plug in, as the single mini-humbucker sounds positively glorious. It has a tight but present low-end, a beautiful focused snarl in the midrange, and sparkling trebles. It sounds bright without ever sounding harsh or tinny, and it has a lovely openness to it. You'll hear a good blend of rich overtones and punchy fundamental tones, which gives chords a beautiful crunch and makes lead lines sizzling. It's a sound that works perfectly for blues, classic rock, and country, but it can also handle business in more aggressive situations like hard rock, punk, or even metal. It's a tone that fits everywhere, proof positive that sometimes a machete works as well as a Swiss Army Knife.
We're proud to showcase the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson 1963 Firebird, and we have no doubt it will inspire you to soar in the musical skies!
