Sonic Evaluation
I'm the biggest advocate for using alternative materials to build guitars, and I felt pleasantly validated (and perhaps even a bit smug) at how great this RainSong sounded. First things first: within a couple minutes of doodling on it, I played a progression I'd never played before and my coworker said "Whoah, is that a song?" and I said "No, but I think it's going to become one." One surefire sign of a guitar's greatness is if it inspires creativity so much that a song falls out of the soundhole immediately, and this RainSong passed the test.
Given that it's not made of wood, it doesn't have the...well, woody qualities we often look for in a nylon-stringed guitar. It does its own thing, and that's cool! The allure of a RainSong lies in its tremendous sustain and projection as well as its crystalline, glassy purity, superb articulation, responsiveness and pitch-perfect note separation. This NP12 excels in all of those areas, giving it a fresh, exciting voice unlike any other nylon-stringed instrument I've ever played. All in all, there's more high fidelity here than a certain film starring John Cusack based on a Nick Hornby book that came out in 2000!
That fidelity translates to glorious plugged-in tone. I ran this bad boy into an AER compact, and it sounded positively beautiful. I was also able to use the notch control and the EQ to dial in a bunch of different tones that all sounded crystal clear. It can basically cop any nylon-stringed sound you'd ever need!
If you're looking for a nylon-string optimized for live performance with a clear, powerful voice, check this serial out!
Condition Report
This RainSong is in fantastic shape! The frets look perfect, and the only cosmetic imperfections to note are some light scratches and marks, mostly on the top. It comes with its original hardshell case, too!
