Feistiness abound in this '72 Martin 00-21, as it is at once incredibly responsive and surprisingly powerful! It responds to player input with lightning speed, and the note jumps out of the soundhole the second you make contact with the string. For a rosewood guitar, it has a very woody tone, with deep (deep like a lake, not an ocean--it is a small-bodied guitar, after all), dry, warm bass response, a surprising amount of midrange punch, and sweet, sparkling trebles. It has great clarity, too, and a nice but not overpowering overtone profile. In other words, it's exactly what I want it to be!
Because of its dynamic responsiveness and robust voice at lower volumes, this guitar would be a fingerstylist's dream even if it didn't have a 1.863” nut width, but it does! The larger surface area makes fingerstyle playing feel divine, and though it doesn't have a ton of headroom, it still is a cool flatpicking or strumming guitar. And, it cuts through beautifully, with excellent presence.
Don't sleep on '70s Martins! This one is a gem puprose-built for fingerstyle domination!
This '72 Martin 00-21 is quite clean! The frets show light wear--far less than you'd expect! Cosmetically, there's some typical vintage wear, the most noticeable of which is some light checking on the body. There are also some tiny pickguard cracks. Structurally, the neck angle has come forward a little, but the action is still very reasonable with a low saddle. Most importantly, it sounds awesome, and it comes with its original hardshell case!
