A common trope in movies and TVs is a character having immense power conferred upon them by wielding a mighty weapon: the sword in the stone making you king, Luke Skywalker receiving Anakin's lightsaber from Obi-Wan, or Dorothy's ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz. This inestimable Bourgeois D-Custom is one of those rare artifacts of power. It certainly made me feel like I'd pulled a lightsaber from a stone in the land of Oz!
The first thing I noticed was its tremendous dynamic range. If you barely kiss the strings, it still responds beautifully with a full, rich sound. When you play as hard you can, it hulks out into a ginormous, banjo-murdering beast! It has tons of headroom and volume on tap, and given that vast distance between the top and volume of its volume scale, it gives you an extraordinarily wide range of dynamics.
The next thing that jumped out was its richness. My goodness, what a beautiful blend of sweet, warm overtones! It's wonderfully rich and complex, but never muddy or inarticulate. The bass response is rich and piano-like, the midrange is uncommonly present for a rosewood-bodied guitar, and the high-end is replete with an embarrassment of sparkling riches.
If you're looking for a banjo-killing dread with rosewood back and sides that still has a secret sensitive side, you owe it to yourself to experience the power of this masterpiece!
This Bourgeois is in minty-fresh condition! If it weren't for some light scratches on the pickguard, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's brand new--it's that clean. It comes with its original hardshell case, too!
