Perhaps because I'm grumpy because I haven't had my coffee yet, I felt nothing but pure rage when I put this Bourgeois OMS 12-fretter down after playing it. Not because I was mad the guitar--far from it!--but because I currently am unable to take it home with me. Frankly, I'm furious! This guitar is amazing. It's uber-responsive, shockingly loud, and I may have heard 12-fretters with more headroom in the past, but if I did, I don't remember. It has all the touch-sensitivity I love from a 12-fretter, but it can really roar when you dig in with a flatpick. The attack is also quite stout, and the notes don't splat out even when I let my sledgehammer of a right hand loose. It's also magnificently touch-sensitive if you play softly.
Frequency respone-wise, it's rich and deep in the bass and sweet and sparkly in the highs, with a much more prominent midrange tha you'd expect from a rosewood-bodied acoustic. The overtone profile is gorgeous, with lots of even-order harmonics that blend harmoniously without inhibiting clarity or string separation.
As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that this may be my favorite 12-fretter with this wood configuration I've ever played, and if not it's certainly on my Mount Rushmore. Alas, it is destined for some other lucky picker! In the meantime, I'm going to take my anger out by knocking over a bunch of stuff in our video guy's office because I don't know how to process my emotions about this matter in a healthy manner.
This Bourgeois OMS Vintage Deluxe 12-fretter is in magnificent condition! The frets show virtually zeor wear, and the finish shows very light signs of normal use--mostly just some faint scratches on the top in the pickguard area and back as well as some light marks on the headstock. It comes with its original hardshell case, and it sounds incredible!
