I had to take a moment to reboot my consciousness after hitting the low E for the first time. This thing sounds like a 50-foot-tall upright bass from hades! The semi-hollow construction gives it that upright flavor, and its dry, warm, woody tone thumps like Paul Bunyan knocking on your door.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo call the neck pickup deep would be the understatement of the century and possibly the millenium--it's downright all-encompassing, a pure monolith of low-end power. Even high notes threaten to cause structural damage to support beams, and it has fat frequency response across the board. By contrast, the mini-humbucker in the bridge position sounds like an angrier, 'roided up Jazz Bass pickup. It has tons of bite and growl, but it still has extended low-end and a meaty midrange, so it hits like the Hulk wearing brass knuckles. Combine them in the middle position and you get the best of both worlds. It also has a mini-toggle that cuts off certain frequencies that give it a reedy, horn-like tone great for tic-tac basslines and other creative applications. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf I had my way, this bass would be coming home with me, but as Mr. Jagger put it so many years ago, you can't always get what you want! I hope the lucky future owner loves it as much as I do. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eCondition Report\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis EB-2 has clearly been played and loved for many years! It shows typical wear for an instrument of its vintage (dings, scratches, chips, etc.) and it has some awesome-looking checking. There are two holes on either side of the bridge pickup (likely from a removed pickup cover), and a previous owner added a screw to the pickguard for stability. At some point, it has undergone a repair for a headstock break, and the repair work doesn't look pretty, but it is rock-solid. There's also a noticeably greater amount of checking around the neck heel, but it is extremely solid and does not appear to have undergone a reset. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe frets look like they're original (if there has been a refret, it was a long time ago) and have been leveled, crowned, and polished. They show virtually no wear and measure .101 inches by .028 inches. The pickups tuners, bridge assembly, nut, and plastics look original, too. The bridge pickup's volume pot has been replaced, and the handrest was lost to the sands of time.
