Fender Custom Shop 2019 Collection Postmodern Bass - Journeyman Relic
A Postmodern Greatest Hits Package
In the literary world, postmodernists took the tools honed by modernist authors and used them to craft works that highlighted the absurdity of human existence while questioning the intrinsic meaning of everything. But, don't worry: in the guitar world, there's nothing absurd or meaningless about Fender's new Postmodern Bass from the 2019 Custom Shop Collection! In fact, few things are more simple and fulfilling than sitting down with one of these bad boys and rocking out.
What makes these guitars so meaningful? Well, over the years, Fender has designed a wide range of inspiring basses. Each period of their storied history produced innovation that made basses feel, look, and sound different. For the Postmodern series, Fender has cherry-picked their most inspiring features from the past and assembled them into a cohesive whole. So, these Postmodern Basses aren't beholden to one year or decade; rather, they take their inspiration from Fender's entire storied history.
Sheer Thunderous Greatness
The four-stringed entry in Fender's 2019 Postmodern lineup is one of the mightiest thud staffs ever to grace the beautiful ball of dirt and water we call Earth. You see, back in the day, bassists would often transplant Jazz necks onto P-Bass bodies to create basses with rib-thudding tone and greased-lightning playability. The Postmodern Bass is so cool because it feels and sounds one of those customized basses of doom
A Bass-Tone Behemoth
Sound-wise, the magic comes from a resonant alder body, atop which you can find an RSD bridge for maximum sustain and resonance. A hand-wound Custom Shop '57 Split-Coil P-Bass pickup furthers the already-stellar unamplified tone by putting out authoritative low-end, muscular midrange, and sweet highs. There's nothing you can't do with this sort of sound, because it fits in almost every musical context: hard rock, metal, punk, dub, funk, reggae, classic rock, soul, country, hip-hop, even jazz! No matter the genre, you'll find a bassist rocking the classic Precision Bass sound.
One Nice Neck
As any bassist will tell you, a comfortable neck is a must-have whether you're playing three-hour gigs or spending long hours in the studio. The Postmodern Bass's '60 Jazz Bass U-shaped neck profile definitely fits the bill. It's nice and slim by the nut and chunky on the higher frets, which makes for a remarkably effortless playing experience. Also, it sports a 1.48" nut width, which many bassists favor because it facilitates lightning-fast low-end shredding. Add a modern 9.5" radius to the equation, and you've got a neck with the sort of buttery handfeel that begs you to play for hours upon hours.
Buttery Feel. Beastly Tone
The Fender Custom Postmodern Bass would make a great choice for any bassist looking for a workhorse with plenty of vintage vibe. Ergonomically, it has been tailored to please discerning modern players that demand exceptional playability. Sonically, it produces a mighty tone that will impress at the gig or in the studio. We are proud to showcase such an inspiring instrument, and we invite you to experience its incredible power by taking one for a spin.
