Fender American Original ’60s Jaguar
American Original. World-Class Tone. The Fender Jaguar made its grand debut in 1962, and it has been inspiring guitarists ever since. Though it was originally intended to appeal to the high-end guitar market with its many top-of-the-line appointments, the Jaguar really hit its stride in the heyday of the alternative music movement in the 1980s and ‘90s, when indie legends such as Kevin Shields, Kurt Cobain, and John Frusciante used them on countless classic recordings. The new American Original ‘60s Jaguar captures the classic sound of these original instruments while giving them a few refreshing modern touches.
The Wildwood team loves Jaguars, so we are giddy with excitement over these fresh new axes! There’s a lot to be stoked about, but the pickups are especially electrifying. Fender has taken great pains to recreate the singular sound of the original sixties single-coils, and the results are spectacular. By using enamel-coated wire, cloth-covered output wires, fiber bobbins, and alnico 5 magnets, Fender has managed to wind modern pickups that sound like they came straight out of a time capsule! They have round trebles, vocal upper-midrange, and tight bass, and they remain supremely articulate even with lots of gain.
For vintage enthusiasts, Fender has included some awesome appointments that hearken back to the sixties like an old-school bass-cut “strangle” switch for added versatility, original-era body radii for comfort, vintage-tall frets for easy bending, and a floating bridge with a lock button and a push-in tremolo arm for expressive vibrato. Most importantly, they’ve given these guitars a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, so they’re able to breathe and resonate just like the legendary vintage Fenders of yore.
When you combine all of that with the insanely-comfortable 60’s C neck and a modern 9.5” radius, you get a souped-up vintage-inspired Fender that can keep pace with any modern axe out there. Wildwood Guitars is proud to present the Fender American Original 60’s Jaguar, and we hope you find it as inspiring as we do!
