Making a comparison between a new dreadnought and a pre-war vintage guitar is always a bold preposition; after all, pre-war dreadnoughts are veritable holy grail instruments! However, this 2016 Santa Cruz D Pre-War lives up to the expectations that come with its name. It certainly has the sonic flavors associated with great vintage acoustics: huge resonance, warm tone, and a woody, percussive attack. The low-end is robust and piano-like, but it remains well-mannered--none of the dreaded flub or mud here! The midrange is smooth and round when you play with a light touch, and it becomes punchier and punchier the more you dig in. Finally, the trebles are lush, glassy, and chime-y. Anyone looking for a glorious strummer with a vintage voice will love this D Pre-War from Santa Cruz!
This Santa Cruz is in excellent shape, and it only has a couple cosmetic flaws to report. There are some small dings on the top by the bass side of the fingerboard, and their is some light play wear on other areas of the top. Also, a previous owner installed a K&K passive pickup, which sounds awesome! It has also had its frets leveled recently, so it's ready to rip! It comes with its original Santa Cruz-branded hardshell case and all factory paperwork.
