The Rocker

"Rocker" an appropriate name for the Rocker 15, because if you could distill the essence of rock and roll into a box, it would look and sound an awful lot like this amplifier. Built to excel in as a home practice tool, a studio weapon, and a live workhorse, the Rocker 15 is a lightweight, portable, versatile two-channel amp with a huge amount of range. There are few frills to be found on the Rocker, but--as with most things--there is beauty in simplicity, and you can achieve everything from roaring rock distortion to crystalline cleans with its intuitive controls. It delivers everything you need and nothing that you don't, and it is full of inspiring sounds. Both channels are quite responsive to player input, and they provide an incredibly dynamic, expressive playing experience, so let's dive in and examine the killer tones they provide.

The Natural channel on the Rocker is as stripped-down as can be. It has one knob for volume control, and that's it. As you might expect, the natural channel delivers incredibly pure tube tone. At lower volumes, it has a sweet, sunny sound with plenty of chime and midrange warmth. At about noon, you get into "pushed" clean territory, and more overtones pop out of the speaker as the tubes add a little bit of grit. At higher volumes, the Rocker's Natural channel achieves a glorious vintage British crunch perfect for just about any kind of rock and roll. This channel also works marvelously as a pedal platform if you like to get your dirt from stompboxes.

The Dirty Channel has a few more tone-shaping options, and it picks up where the Natural channel leaves off. You'll get tasty light overdrive at lower volumes, roaring thick distortion that would make Jimmy Page weak in the knees at noon, and ridiculously rich, gristle-laden goodness when you crank it. The EQ is also quite powerful, and small tweaks can make a big difference to the sound, allowing you to find every shade and hue of Orange your heart desires.

The Rocker 15 does have a handful of enormously useful, easy-to-use bells and whistles. The "Headroom/Bedroom" attenuator switch drops the wattage down from fifteen to one, so you can practice at lower volumes, and the "Half-Power" switch cuts the wattage down to seven when you're Headroom mode and half a watt when you're in Bedroom mode. The design team at Orange was careful to make sure that the amp kept the springiness and response of a large amp at these low-wattage settings, so you never have to trade tone for happy neighbors.

Speaking of wattage, the Rocker 15 sits right in the sweet spot: loud enough to keep up with a band, but not too loud, so you can crank it and get thick, full-bodied, organic power amp distortion without angering the sound guy or damaging your bass player's hearing. The ten-inch Voice of the World Gold Label speaker has 101dB’s worth of sensitivity, so it works at maximum efficiency, allowing you to maintain plenty of presence in a band mix. It also has shockingly robust low-end to go with the typical chime and sparkle you’d expect from a ten-inch speaker. If you’re searching for a gig-ready combo, the Rocker 15 will get the job done with great aplomb.

We're proud to present the Rocker 15. Basically, it's the essence of rock in a box, and it offers a wide palette of sounds with which you can paint your musical masterpiece. If you're looking for a versatile, easy-to-use, portable, amp that can slay in the studio, stage, or home, you'll love the Rocker 15. We invite you to plug in, crank the volume, and rock out so that you can experience the magic of Orange tone firsthand.
