Gretsch Player’s Edition G6620TFM Nashville w/Center Block
Tonal EvaluationThough this flame-maple fireball from our friends at Gretsch is excellent for Chet Atkins style chicken pickin,' it can do a lot more than that, too! In general, the maple body has lots of dry, woody resonance in the low end to go with clear, present, twangy trebles and a quacking, cutting upper midrange. The neck pickup has some serious low-end girth, but the fundamental still comes through quite clearly, and the upper-mids help it cut through the mix. This makes the neck pickup fantastic for fingerpicking, since your bass notes will ring out clearly while still providing a strong foundation for whatever melody you're playing. This combination of clairty and fullness also makes the neck position wonderful for playing jazz! The bridge pickup, on the other hand, is tight in the bass and jangly in the high-end. Though it can definitely do the twangy Gretsch sound quite well, it also excels at Malcolm Young-style nasty rock rhythm playing. In fact, one of my favorite things about this serial is the way the midrange hulks out when you play hard. The maple top begins to compress, and you get this really nice boxy, hulked-out midrange response that sounds glorious through a distorted amp. Anyone looking for a Gretsch that can do country, rock, and jazz will love this serial!
For full-throttle Nashville class, the double- cutaway G6620TFM Players Edition Nashville® Center Block Double-Cut with String-Thru Bigsby® and Flame Maple nails it with the time- honored Gretsch model’s classic style. That would include a beautiful tiger flame maple top, body and headstock finished in orange stain, with a chambered spruce center block that enhances body resonance for more organic tone and comfortably lighter weight.
