Suhr Custom Classic
Tonal EvaluationI could get lost exploring this candy apple red Custom Classic's plethora of fun tones! Immediately upon picking thsi guitar up, I knew it was special because of its incredible unplugged resonance. I don't know if I've ever played a guitar with a locking tremolo that sings out as clearly and powerfully as this stunning Suhr! Overall, it has a woody, midrange-forward voice--another departure for a guitar with a locking trem.
The bridge pickup is quite balanced! The midrange is punchy, the trebles are crisp and sweet like a Golden Delicious apple, and the bass is tight and chunky.
The neck pickup has muscular, sculpted bass response to go with a midrange that can thump or punch depending on how hard you hit it. The trebles are still nice and clear, though!
The in-between positions on the pickup selector switch split the coils of the Aldrich humbuckers, and they have KILLER scooped, bright, spanky tones that remind me a lot of the single-coil tones from eighties Def Leppard records. Nevertheless, they carry the natural woody character of the guitar!
Anyone looking for a crazy-resonant guitar with a locking tremolo that can do punchy, chunky humbucker tones AND bright, woody single-coil tones will love this super-fun Suhr!
