You don't see too many Custom Shop CS-356s, which is a shame, because they sound and look amazing. This serial is a particularly good one. It has a wonderfully woody, articulate attack that gives way to full, balanced resonance. The neck pickup has deep, clear low-end along with broad, rich midrange and meaty highs. Flip to the bridge pickup and the midrange grows fangs! That extra bite sounds nice above the just-right lows (not too fat, not too lean!) and the sparkling, lush trebles. Anyone seeking a Gibson semi-hollow with impressive resonance will love this serial!
This gorgeous Custom Shop CS-356 has a few cosmetic issues to note. Its frets show very light wear, and they have a ton of life left in them. There are small dings and scratches on the finish, with some bigger dings and chips on the top near the butt, on the headstock, and in the pickguard area. There is also a repaired crack on the back on the treble-side lower bout. The hardware has also tarnished, and some gold has been rubbed off the tailpiece. There is also some checking around the headstock logo, which is typical for Gibsons that have been around for over a decade. A previous owner also removed the pickguard and added Schaller strap buttons (though the strap side of the button is missing). It also comes with its original Custom Shop hardshell case. If you can look past these battle scars, you can snag a truly rare and majestic Custom Shop creation for an exceptional value!
