Gibson Custom Shop Wildwood Spec 1959 Flying V – VOS
To V or Not to VTo paraphrase a little-known English playwright and poet, "To V, or not to V, that is hardly a question: especially when the V is of the Wildwood Spec variety." William Shakespeare may not have actually said that, but the sentiment is still accurate: there is no question as to whether or not you should V, because the new Wildwood Spec 1959 Flying Vs from Gibson Custom are cooler than Miles Davis riding a polar bear across the Arctic tundra.
From Flop to LegendThe Wildwood Spec Flying V is a stunning recreation of the first Flying Vs that arrived in the late fifties. Back then, the V's futuristic styling was a bit too avant-garde for the general public, and it flopped completely before Gibson discontinued it entirely. Later, when guitar players figured out that pointy guitars are awesome, these original examples became some of the most sought-after guitars in the world. Some serials fetch a cool quarter-million dollars on the used market! Since not all of us have mansions to mortgage for an original '59, we asked our friends at Gibson Custom to capture some of that vintage magic in a modern Custom Shop guitar.
As they always do, the wizards at Gibson Custom delivered. They picked high-quality mahogany bodies that resonate with force and clarity, and plopped in two Wildwood Spec Custombuckers. These slightly-underwound PAF-inspired pickups have a ton of vintage mojo. They're woody and clear, but they have immense girth. The bridge pickup has plenty of rasp, punch, and snarl in the midrange to go with muscular lows and sunny, sweet highs. In the neck position, you'll find broad, throaty midrange along with warm, robust low-end and singing highs. Playing one of these Wildwood Spec Vs is like stepping into a classic record, and we are sure their vintage vibes will inspire you to set fire to the fretboard.
We are proud to showcase the Wildwood Spec 1959 Flying V. We believe it captures the spirit of those iconic original Flying Vs from 1959 with exceptional accuracy, and we know it will help you make joyous noise for a long time.
