We are absolutely freaking out over this '87 Custom 24 here at the Wildwood Web Office, so forgive me if this tonal evaluation sounds like the work of a madman! In the five minutes I played it, I developed a deep and abiding love for this serial. It has a five-way rotary switch and it has a "sweet switch," a radical piece of circuitry that simulates the effect of a hundred foot-long cable by rounding off the high-end and making it, well, sweet-sounding! That gives you ten total sounds to play with, and they are all tremendously inspiring. The humbucker sounds are perfect: enough gristle to feel flavorful, but lean enough to be healthy. The in between tones have plenty of chime, quack, and sparkle, too. Visions of this guitar will haunt my dreams for a long time, and I am envious of the lucky guitar picker who gets to come home to it every night. Warning: this serial may make you contemplate six-string monogamy.
This beautiful '87 PRS Custom 24 has accumulated some honest play wear over the course of its thirty-two years on Earth, but it's in Excellent+ Condition! The frets show light-to-moderate wear, but they have plenty of life left in them. There are chips on the top of the headstock and there is also one small ding on the top, near the strap button. The hardware has lightly tarnished to give it a worn-in vintage look, too. Finally, the shielding paint on the control panel has been scraped off (never fear--this guitar still sounds quiet). It comes with a sturdy black hardshell case. All in all, it's in amazing shape for its age, so this is your chance to snag a sweet PRS from the early days for an excellent price!
