Overview Video

From classic rock to jazz, too! It has a rich voice with lots of sustain, and it is also remarkably responsive and dynamic. Let's take a closer look and see what makes this guitar an all-around six-string king!

Solid Woods Lead to Sweet Tone

The fine folks at Reverend take great care to ensure that the Club King 290 has a rich acoustic voice because that's the building block for a great semi-hollow. To ensure that this guitar sings out loud and proud, they built it out of all solid woods with no veneers or plywood. Each body's back, sides, and center block come from one piece of top-routed korina. Then, they glue a solid piece of spruce on to form the top. By using solid woods, Reverend ensures that the player gets acoustic-like touch-sensitivity and rich harmonic response.

From a sonic standpoint, spruce and korina work spectacularly well together. Korina has the punch and warmth of mahogany, but it has a livelier, sunnier high-end. Spruce has been the top of choice for acoustic guitars for centuries now because of its ability to project, its openness, and its balance between fundamental notes and overtones. Together, they produce a warm, well-defined tone with exceptional clarity and articulation and a little bit of extra edge and chime in the highs. All of this resonance serves as a wonderful building block for an electric guitar tone.

It's also worth noting that the Bigsby tailpiece adds a bit of extra growl to the attack and a bit of extra sweet bell-like chime in the high-end.

Pugnacious P-90s

P-90s and semi-hollow bodies go together like macaroni and cheese, and the Reverend Club King 290 is a perfect example of them working harmoniously together. The bridge pickup packs a focused punch in the midrange beneath trebles exploding with harmonic overtones, while the neck pickup is warm, thick, and rich. Both are quite touch-sensitive, too. When you ease off, they sound warm, smooth, and mellow. As your right-hand velocity increases, you get more and more sparkle and bell-like chime. They are also impeccably clear and they have superb note separation.

The neck pickup is wonderful for thick distorted riffs, gutbucket blues, and jazzy chord comping, and it lends single-note lines lots of girth. The bridge pickup can twang enough for country, snarl enough for punk, punch enough for rock, and jangle enough for indie music. And, with Reverend's signature bass contour knob, you can tighten the bass response to taste and sample other delectable flavors of P-90 tone, making the Club King 290 a fantastically versatile ax!

Power to the Player

Reverend has kitted out Club King 290 with a metric ton of appointments that enhance the player's experience and make it supremely reliable. The medium oval neck profile is home to 22 0.110" wide x 0.050" high frets and a fingerboard with a 12" radius, a configuration well-suited to most techniques and playing styles (and, it's especially good for bending strings). Also, it has pin-lock tuners and a Boneite nut to ensure excellent tuning stability, and it comes equipped with boutique-quality pots and caps and a Pure Tone jack for consistent sound. Finally, an angled six-bolt neck plate increases stability and resonance while allowing easy access to the upper frets.
