A Barrel of Six-Gun Fun

Reverend's new Six Gun TL is one of the freshest takes on an S-Style Guitar that we've seen in a long while. Though it seems like a standard SSS guitar at first glance, it features a few key changes that give it impressive versatility and a unique, original voice. First things first, though: the sweet new colors (Chronic Blue, Midnight Black, Avocado, and Medieval Red) and the offset body give it sleek retro-futuristic aesthetic with vibe that cannot be denied.

The main change from the Six Gun's last incarnation is a brand-new pickup in the bridge position: a Talnico single-coil commonly found in Reverend's T-style guitars like the Pete Anderson T. This may seem like a tiny tweak, but it really opens up a whole new world of single-coil tone when you consider it in light of this guitar's overall tonality. Like most Reverends, the Six Gun TL is built from korina, a wood that sounds similar to mahogany but has a bit more high-end liveliness and bite. The neck is made of roasted maple, which has a woodier, clearer vintage-style tone.

This round, clear, balanced unplugged resonance works wonder with the voicing of Reverend's alnico pickups. They're voiced similarly to the classic single-coils of yore, but with a bit more midrange warmth and woodiness in the forefront. So, for the Salnico pickups, think SRV and Hendrix-style tone with focused, punchy mids to go with a booming fundamental in the bass and cutting, glassy trebles. For the Talnico in the bridge, think of Jimmy Page's sound on the first four Zeppelin records and you'll get a good idea of how its sizzling highs and snappy mids sound.

Reverend's bass contour knob is the source of the real magic, though. With a flick of the wrist, you can brighten up the sound of the guitar considerably and get a whole 'nother palette of classic sounds! The Salnico pickups suddenly attain a brighter, more scooped character that will call to mind the sounds of David Gilmour and the quackier Hendrix tones, and the Talnico pickup puts on a cowboy hat and brings the sort of woody twang that will make country enthusiasts and southern rock aficionados weak in the knees. Of course, you can find all sorts of sounds in between these two extremes at various points on the bass contour knob, and the tone knob gives you all sorts of warmer textures to play with.

There are two reasons why the Talnico pickup in the bridge position is such a great idea: first, it has a bit more midrange body and fullness than a typical SSS guitar's bridge position; second, its beefier sound helps you retain presence and fullness when you engage the bridge with the middle pickup. As a result, position two on the Reverend Six Gun TL is quite impressive: quack-y and chime-y yet muscular.

As you can see, the Reverend Six Gun is much more than a typical SSS guitar. It is a supremely versatile and highly original update on a classic design, and it has all sorts of player-friendly appointments. For instance, a medium oval neck with a 12" radius is home to 22 0.110" wide x 0.050" high frets, which gives these guitars superior handfeel and playability. They also feature a Boneite nut and locking tuners for maximum stability, boutique-quality pots and caps for sterling sound quality, a six-bolt neck plate to promote strong neck-to-body connection to aid resonance, and an expressive, reliable Wilkinson tremolo system with a Vari-Claw system for easy adjustment.

Anyone searching for an impressive SSS guitar will likely fall in love with the Reverend Six Gun TL. We invite you to experience its myriad sonic delights, and we know its versatility will inspire you endlessly.
