Reverend Matt West Signature
Go WestThe band Neck Deep is a runaway pop-punk train, and Matt West's right hand is the engine pushing everything into overdrive. Since 2013, the Welsh group has been releasing delicious pieces of ear candy that blend the aggressive edge of classic punk bands like The Descendants with modern Top 40-worthy hooks and clever arrangements. They are the sort of band that makes you feel like doing backflips and hand-springs when the chorus hits (although we do not recommend this unless you have a background in gymnastics).
As the rhythm player for Neck Deep, Matt West developed quite a repertoire of acrobatic aerial maneuvers during their energetic live shows. So, he needed a guitar with heavy sound and light weight. Reverend Guitars was up to the task, and they delivered him a truly spectacular signature model.
Neck Deep in ToneThe Matt West Signature is a stripped-down rock and roll beast with enough sonic horsepower to take you all the way to Valhalla. As always, it has a korina body, which is really a lovely tonewood. Its warm, punchy midrange response and general roundness are reminiscent of mahogany, but it is livelier and has more going on in the trebles. Reverend also roasts the maple necks, which imparts a bit of woody, vintage-style warmth. It also makes the neck resonate like a wooden tuning fork, and improves stability.
The tone in the wood is a match made in heaven with the single P-90 in the bridge. It's quite touch-sensitive, and it can sound open and chime-y when you pick softly or chunky and biting when you dig in. There is enough low-end to rattle your ribs, but not so much that it causes muddiness or flubbiness. The midrange snarls and bites like an underfed wolf, and the trebles have plenty of chime and sparkle. And if chime and sparkle are your thing, you can use Reverend's bass contour knob to thin things out and get more brightness out of the guitar whenever you desire.
The Wild, Wild WestA guitar player like Matt West puts his instruments through a lot live, so he also needed a reliable guitar that could withstand the rigors of punk rock touring and play easily. As they always do, Reverend delivered a bulletproof guitar with exceptional playability. The reverse headstock puts more tension on the E string, which brings tightness to the sound and makes for a springy feel when you play chunky riffs. Also, there is less tension on the high strings, which makes bending easier. And, the neck has a medium oval shape with a 12" radius and medium jumbo frets, which is a tried-and-true combo that works well for just about any style and technique. Overall, the Matt West Signature is a lot of fun to play thanks to its ergonomic appointments.
Reverend also outfits these guitars with a host of little things that make life easier for the discerning modern guitarist. They use boutique-quality pots and capacitors to enhance consistency, a six-bolt neck plate for extra resonance, sustain, and stability, and a custom jack plate with a Pure Tone jack to keep your connection solid. Pin lock tuners and a Boneite nut give you excellent tuning stability, and a triple-tree string tree kills off G-string buzz. All of these features add up to make a guitar with supreme reliability even in the most punk rock conditions.
A Punk Rock WorkhorseMatt West's signature Reverend is quite a feat of engineering: it manages to be a true punk rock workhorse AND a delightfully inspiring instrument that makes you break into a grin every time you hit a big chord. It's supremely reliable, and its supercharged sounds are positively arena-worthy. We're proud to showcase such a fun guitar, and we know it will help you make lots of joyous noise.
