Martin Guitars Standard Series D-28
Sonic Evaluation
About once a day at Wildwood, I'll be evaluating a guitar and after two or three chords, one of my coworkers will powerwalk across the shop, stick their head in the door, and go "Woah, what is THAT?" This spectacular D-28 elicited that response immediately, which tells you two things: it's loud enough to be heard across the din of Wildwood, and it stands out in the company of other fantastic guitars.
More specifically, it sounds like the quintessential D-28, with booming low-end that hits like a Mack truck, gorgeous sparkling trebles, and a voice rich in harmonic overtones. It sounds lush and three-dimensional, and the overtones and fundamentals blend beautifully. Despite how massive it sounds, it never loses clarity or articulation, and it can handle all sorts of harmonically complex chords without muddying up. Beyond that, it's super-duper responsive, and it has a wide dynamic range, which makes it delightfully expressive.
If you dig the sound of Martin dreadnaughts and you're looking for a particularly excellent one, this serial will probably make you exclaim "WOAH!" too.
