James Tyler Mongoose Special
Tonal EvaluationIn the wild, mongooses are known for killing dangerous venomous snakes. Though I'm not sure if this James Tyler Mongoose Special will offer much protection against a cobra, it does have the sort of tone that slays all comers!
First off, it has a round, piano-like attack that gives way to the sort of frequency response that recording engineers dream of. It's warm, woody, and the touch-sensitive midrange is definitely at the forefront of the sound. Nevertheless, its semi-hollow construction gives it more openness and sparkle in the high end and a bit more warm, vintage-style low end.
The bridge pickup is the stuff of rock and roll dreams. It puts out plenty of woody, punchy midrange to go with tight, muscular lows and a surprisingly sparkly high end.
The neck pickup is thick and juicy! It has broad, open-throated vocal midrange response, to go with deep, warm, dry lows and just-right highs that sit at the midpoint between glassy and sparkly.
Anyone looking for a guitar with a sound that could charm a cobra will love this killer Mongoose Special!
